Te Puia, A Cultural Legacy

Culture and great hospitality are at the heart of Te Puia – be it for a guided experience, stunning walk or a visit to the Pātaka Kai Restaurant.
Renowned for its role in ensuring the ongoing preservation of Māori culture, identity, art and craft, Te Puia gifts visitors the unique opportunity to discover one of New Zealand’s most magnificent geothermal wonderlands – featuring dramatic geysers, bubbling mud and beautiful native bush.

Spectacular Sights
Te Puia is nestled right in our own backyard, a sprawling 60-hectare landscape of uncovered natural bush, geysers and mud pools with a remarkable walk along the Te Whakarewarewa geyser terrace.
A stroll like no other, Te Puia’s world-famous geothermal area is home to the Pōhutu geyser – the largest geyser in the Southern Hemisphere, which erupts every hour, shooting water and steam up to 30metres high.

Guided Cultural Experiences
Discover Te Puia’s history and lineage with a guided personalised tour – each guide adds a personal touch to inspire and help visitors truly connect with the Te Puia experience. Many Te Puia guides grew up in the valley, sharing the mantle handed to them by their ancestors in the form of knowledge, history and arts. Inspiration abounds, a journey through Te Puia encompasses the powers that make up this sacred place, and the 180 years of geothermal and cultural history passed down by those who were a part of its legacy.

Kiwi Encounters
One of Te Puia’s greatest drawcards is its new Kiwi Conservation Centre that gets you up-close-and-personal with one of our national treasures like never before.
If you’re a Kiwi who’s never seen a Kiwi, Te Puia provides the perfect opportunity to make it happen. Now you can get a really close look at these endangered birds in a special darkened enclosure and learn how the sanctuary is working to protect them.

Fine Dining with Kiwi Flavours
Not just a restaurant but a cultural food and beverage experience, Pātaka Kai makes for a truly unforgettable feast.
Think innovation meets Kiwi fare and a spectacular geothermal view to bring it all together. Te Puia is the only place in the world where you can dine while overlooking an erupting geyser!
After journeying the day away with a guided tour, there’s nothing quite like kicking back and relaxing into the evening with some sumptuous wining and dining at Pātaka Kai. The set menus are smartly sophisticated – infusing Māori flavours, with an array of global cuisines and cooking styles.

Weddings, functions and parties are even better at Te Puia with a range of dining locations on site – from the restaurant overlooking the geothermal valley, the state-ofthe-art event centre, new geyser marquee and meeting rooms too. If you’re looking for a stunning venue to host your next function, event or conference, look no further than Te Puia!
