Braised Lamb Shanks with Black Beans & Chilli

  • Ingredients
      • 8 large lamb shanks, cut in half
      • 2 tbsp minced fresh ginger
      • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
      • 1 tsp sesame oil
      • 1⁄4 cup black bean sauce
      • 1⁄2 cup Thai sweet chilli sauce
      • 1 cup water

This recipe is so simple yet so full of flavour, it will melt in your mouth and warm you throughout. Accompany it with some kumara mash and greens, and you’ve got the perfect evening meal.

  1. Pre-heat oven to 220°C.
  2. Trim visible fat from shanks, season with salt and pepper and place into hot oven for 40 minutes to release fat and brown.
  3. Drain off fat and put shanks in a deep casserole or pot.
  4. Add all other ingredients. Mix through.
  5. Cover and bake for about 1 hour at 170°C or simmer at lowest heat for about 3⁄4 to 1 hour until very tender.

Serving Suggestion

Accompany with kumara and mash and greens
