Dad’s Day Out

All Dads want on Father’s Day is to relax, spend some quality time with their family and a memorable day they will cherish.
There are so many ways to make it special, it doesn’t have to be the traditional breakfast in bed or buying him more of those hardly-ever-worn ties. Here’s some ideas on how you can make the most of the day with what we have…
Get outdoors
There’s nothing like some fresh air and good company to lighten the mood. Take his mind off the hustle with something like a round of golf, bike ride, or hike and top it off with a lakeside picnic and his favourite beers at the end of the day.
On the lake
A day out on the lake is pretty much always a winning idea. Dads love fishing, well, most of them, and if not, there’s be plenty of other ways you can spend a day on the water – getting on a wakeboard, kayak, boat, or just jump in!
Head up the mountain
Did you know Mt Ruapehu is open until 22 October? What a great opportunity to take Dad out for a day on the snow. Even if he’s not into skiing or snowboarding, think about getting him a lesson (if he wants to learn), or the other activities available like the hikes, sightseeing, or a dinner with amazing views.
Gift an experience
Surprise him with something a little bit different, an experience he will remember for years to come. Does he have a need for speed? Take him for a thrill ride, check out the local racetrack (and our bucket list article about it on page 15). He’ll love everything about it: the cars, the speed and the power. Or local events on this winter like the Winter Festival, Mardi Gras, or let him choose, he’ll appreciate the thought (even if you don’t enjoy it) and the time you’ve spent together.
