6 Reasons Why Spring is the Best Time to Ski Ruapehu!
Just because we’ve said ‘see you later to winter’, it doesn’t mean the ski season is over. In fact, it’s anything but that, with plenty of our regular folks saying that spring brings out the best of the mountain. We think so too, and here’s our top 6 reasons why:
#1
The snow goes into a melt/thaw cycle due to warmer days but cold nights, which then rewards us with five-star corn (coarse, granular wet snow that skiers describe as good spring snow).
#2
Due to Turoa’s south-west orientation, the sun has less effect on snow surface conditions until late October/November which means you can ski and ride all day without too much sun making conditions soft and slushy.
#3
A typical day involves breakfast and coffee at 9am; skiing from 10am-3pm; a beer in the Schuss Haus before heading back to Taupo to enjoy dinner by the lake. Bliss!
#4
Special deals for Spring! Free Ski/Snowboard rental with every Full Day Lift Pass purchased. Monday – Friday from 10th September until the end of the season (save $49). There will also be weekly specials in the retail shop and on food and beverage combos.
#5
The school holidays in September/October aren’t as busy as July so if you haven’t introduced the kids to the snow, now is the perfect time!
#6
The beer tastes better after a hot day skiing and spring skiers have better stories at work on Monday. Just remember your sunscreen.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your gear and head on down for stunning blue-sky days, plenty of warmth from the spring sun and amazing snow coverage from the recent top ups. We’re open all the way through to Labour Day on the 22nd October.
