Rory Scott
No place like Taupō.
When Rory Scott returned home from Australia five years ago, the Palmerston North local jumped at the opportunity to work in Taupō.
“It has a fantastic close-knit community of people and businesses and offers a multitude of outdoor pursuits.”
The opportunity to visit clients’ business sites and developments was also a big drawcard, says Rory.
“In Canberra, by comparison, you could be talking to a colleague from across the street and have never met them.”
Living in Taupō has also afforded him opportunities to get involved in local volunteer groups.
“I was chosen as the 2018 intern board member for the Taupō Chamber of Commerce. I also volunteer as a legal advisor at the Citizens Advice Bureau and I’m a board member for ARC Counselling Services.”
It’s about input for real results, he explains. “This year I assisted Chamber with the introduction of the Elevate event series which was designed to bring high level speakers to Taupō to talk about their business experience.”
As many Taupō locals will attest to, it’s the people behind the businesses and infrastructure that ensure the town continues to thrive, says Rory.
“You need to step out and involve yourself in the community – success is driven via community integration,” he enthuses.
