Taupō… New Zealand’s next Film Mecca?
Fancy seeing yourself on the big screen? Or maybe developing your amateur filmmaking hobby into a career?
Enterprise Great Lake Taupō have just signed a three-year agreement with Bay of Plenty Film to promote our region as a location for international feature films, as well as providing training and pathways for those wanting to work in the film industry.
This new partnership is a key initiative under Enterprise Great Lake Taupō’s new strategic plan, to leverage our natural advantages to create economic benefit for our district. Bay of Plenty Film is a Regional Film office, charged with growing, supporting and strengthening the film industry in the Bay of Plenty. They have three key streams of work. Firstly, they ‘connect’ national and international productions with our people, place and infrastructure. Secondly, they ‘create’ a film friendly environment where productions thrive; and thirdly, they ‘celebrate’ the stories that find their home here.
The Taupō district is already benefiting from the work undertaken by Anton Steel and his team at BOP Film, with a number of feature films now considering including the Taupō region as a location for multi-week film shoots in 2019; hosting a number of international film scouts from a variety of major film production companies; helping us to develop more film friendly permitting and consents processes; supporting and connecting our local film industry; and delivery of career pathway information events.
