Taupō Events Calendar is now Year-Round
With over 430 events held within the District over the past 12 months there continues to be little let up in the ‘what’s on’ calendar.
Lead by annual iconic events – The Taupō Summer Concert, IRONMAN New Zealand and the BDO Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge – you could easily be lulled into a sense that Taupo is all about summer activity. But the reality is that the events calendar is now very much year-round.
The District’s event strategy focus has, for the past four years, been on developing our shoulder season event offerings and come this September, that approach will deliver once again.
Headlined by the recent announcement by New Zealand Rugby that Taupō will continue to retain the hosting rights of the annual Jock Hobbs Memorial National U19 Rugby Tournament for a further three years, September is literally filled up of sporting, cultural and artistic and exhibition events. Whether you fancy an art exhibition, are in the market to purchase a hunting weapon, want to witness first hand future All Blacks playing or celebrate our Maori heritage – we have you covered.
Collectively 18,000 visitors are expected to attend the September events, injecting a combined $3.2 million in direct event spend into the local economy.
