So Why Did You Go Into Business?

So Why Did You Go Into Business?

At BFA, we see it time and time again, that people go into business for the same reasons – they are passionate about what they do, they want to deliver a better service, they want to control their lifestyle, and of course achieve better financial rewards.

The reality is for most business owners, only some people achieve some of their goals. Management of the business becomes overwhelming and in many cases management is not one of their key natural skills.

How you got here today, is not going to keep you here tomorrow. The only way forward in this fast changing, modern world of competitors and technology, is for business owners to be effective business managers and be able to adjust to change.

So how do you manage all this and adapt to change?

Consider your own behaviour first

You are the business and you control the culture and direction. Sometimes you may be so tied up doing the day-to-day stuff that you’re not seeing the big picture or you may be making those same old excuses of being ‘way too busy’. You may not know how to handle the stress of staff or just staff issues in general, which is integral to good management.

Identify the change

Change involves a review of operations and formulating a plan to re-direct the resources required in reshaping the business. This review can then provide your business with the tools to manage jobs, cash flow, finances, employees and growth, i.e. better business systems and technology. Look at the entire business, not just isolated parts.

Implement and invest in change

If you are serious about achieving all those original objectives, commit to the process. Put aside the right time and resources to make this work, and don’t be afraid to get someone to help you drive change like your own “business personal trainer”.

So why did you go into business? To do what you love doing, have control and create your future while working for yourself. Don’t be afraid of change. It’s not too late to learn how great management and systems can help you achieve your business goals.
