We Love… Lockdown Streaming
Grab your popcorn, put your PJs back on, and get ready for some serious binge-watching! We love…
Ozark
The brilliant Jason Bateman is Marty Bryde, a financial planner who relocates his family from Chicago to a summer resort community in the Ozarks after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong. That’s putting it nicely. This family is a mess that just gets messier and you will binge on their unravelling and disfunction. 3 Seasons!
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness
Empire reviews this docuseries as “everything from cats and cult-like figures to crooning country music, Tiger King makes for compulsively bonkers viewing, depicting whacked-out corners of weirdo America with an unflinching eye, and boasting tell-all interviews with complicit parties who seem to have no filter…. Beyond all the WTF revelations, this becomes bingeworthy just by watching the trailer and because… what else have you got to do??
Tin Star
Rotten Tomatoes puts it best, “Part drama, part thriller and part dark comedy, Tin Star is an exhilaratingly smart, breathlessly suspenseful thrill ride of a show as deceit, guilt, love, and all-consuming rage lead inexorably to a gut-wrenching finale”. Tim Roth plays a brilliant character, Jim Worth. The first episode seems like a simple copy show, but it will grip you and you’ll spiral with Jim and ‘Jack’ – his alcoholic alter ego, through all two seasons. Jack’s “do what I want” attitude is almost enviable in a time when all we’re allowed to do is stay home. Available on Lightbox.
The English Game
Combining the two things that Brits love, history and football, ‘Downtown Abbey’ creator and ‘Gosford Park’ writer Julian Fellowes brings us this 19th century drama (based on true events) about two footballers on opposite sides of a class divide who change the game. You Tube commenter, Sam Thatcher, just finished his binge watch and said it was a great insight into the beautiful game, especially now that we are robbed of our football fix!
Sex Education
Because not all lockdown viewing should be dark and serious. The critics consensus on Rotten Tomatoes says this is “Bawdy, heartfelt, and surprisingly wise, Sex Education is a raucous romp through a group of teenagers whose sexual misadventures are so thoughtfully rendered, adults could learn a thing or two from them.” We don’t disagree and nor will you – binge all two seasons and make sure you take the time to lap up and enjoy Gillian Anderson’s character – a departure from her usual roles, but refreshingly brilliant!
