Suncatchers are a fun, colourful way to brighten up kids’ rooms and windows. Normally made from glass, we’ve found a cool way of using coloured tissue paper to create a do-it-yourself version. For Halloween, you could make a pumpkin, a black cat, a creepy ghost – or anything you can imagine! Here’s how to do it.
What you’ll need…
- A roll of contact paper (available from most homeware or stationery stores)
- Tissue paper in different colours
- Scissors
- Double sided tape
Tip: If you can’t find contact paper, you can use wax paper and glue instead.
How to…
Step 1: Peel the backing from a piece of contact paper, cut into your desired shape and place down onto a surface sticky-side up, secured with double-sided tape. You can do this straight onto the window.
Step 2: Cut up some small pieces of tissue paper in various colours. To create your design, start sticking them onto the contact paper.
Step 3: Once the design is filled, place a second sheet of contact paper down over the top and seal. If hanging the suncatcher, punch a hole near the top and use a ribbon or string to attach it.
