This tasty pull-apart bread recipe is perfect for Halloween parties! Kids can help by kneading the dough and shaping the spider, and this spooky snack is great for sharing. You can use pre-made bread dough if you’re short on time, but we think it’s much more fun to make it from scratch.
How to…
Step 1: Mix yeast, warm water, and sugar in a large bowl, then set aside for 5 mins.
Step 2: Stir the olive oil, salt, cheese, herbs, and 375g flour into the yeast mixture.
Step 3: Gradually add the other 375g of flour and form into a dough ball.
Step 4: Knead dough for 10 mins until smooth and elastic.
Step 5: Place in an oiled bowl, turning to cover. Cover bowl with a damp tea towel and leave in a warm place to rise for 1 hour.
Step 6: Preheat the oven to 180°C fan/ 200°C bake.
Step 7: Once the bread has doubled in size, push down onto a flat surface to release any excess air.
Step 8: Cut the dough in half, then one half into quarters to make three balls of dough.
Step 9: Roll the largest and one of the smaller pieces into two balls to make the spider’s head and body. Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Step 10: Divide the last ball into four pieces then roll into long thin sausages to make the legs.
Step 11: Place these in the centre between the head and body to make eight legs.
Step 12: Brush egg wash all over the spider, and add extra cheese on top if you like.
Step 13: Bake in the oven for 25-30 mins.
Step 14: Leave to cool, then cut out a dipping dish hole in the spider’s back. Add your chosen dip and serve!
