From its humble beginnings in 1977 with just 26 participants, the BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge has grown into NZ’s premier and largest cycling event, with around 5,000 riders from across New Zealand and the globe taking part each year!
We are New Zealand’s most sought after biking event. We create memorable experiences in one of our country’s most breath-taking locations.
With a vision of creating inspiring event experiences for everyone, our purpose is to provide cyclists, as well as anyone interested in physical activity, the flexibility to choose a ride distance which best suits their cycling ability and aspiration, providing options to ride either as a team, a group, a family or as an individual.
Accompanying our already popular road and mountain-bike categories, is the 40km Quarter Lake on-road event option (taking in the final 40km of the course), complements the iconic 160km Round The Lake and the 80km Half The Lake category.
For the family or recreational cyclist, theres also the 5km Kids Heart Ride and the 16km Lakesider event.
Part of the BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, the BDO Huka Mountain Bike has three event categories, the BDO Huka Challenge approx. 85km, the BDO Huka Steamer approx 60km, and the BDO Huka Teaser approx. 30km.
