Did you know there is an organisation dedicated to keeping the town centre as dynamic and enjoyable as possible? That’s what Towncentre Taupo does.
As locals, we know that Taupo is home to boutique shopping and our town centre is the vibrant heart of the district. We want it to continue to offer a unique, fresh and inviting atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy, every time.
Towncentre Taupo works to continually improve the social and economic well-being of the town centre. We are a member-funded incorporated society that includes every business in the Taupo town centre. To maximise opportunities and work efficiently, we partner with the Taupo District Council and supporting agencies where appropriate.
The town centre
Our aim is to create an interesting and engaging space for visitors and locals. Its village and boutique style, the fairy-lit trees on the Ruapehu Street roundabouts and various sculptures, flags and decorations around town give it a unique personality, enriching the experience.
Events
Towncentre Taupo makes sure visitors and event participants feel welcome and make the most of what’s on in town. We partner with various events and spruce up the town to give you the best experience.
The multi-sport sculptures on Heuheu Street and next to the Taupo Yacht Club were installed to show support for every person who runs, bikes and swims in and around Great Lake Taupo.
Twice a year we bring out the red bikes and place them around town to celebrate The Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge and the IRONMAN NZ.
Coming Up
Over the next two months, we’re bringing back our ‘Shop in Taupo’ campaign, giving away 30,000 scratchy cards where every card is a winner. Over 40 Taupo shops, cafes and restaurants are included in the promotion. There is a massive prize pool of freebies and gift vouchers from local businesses plus a major prize of a Great Lake Taupo winter escape to be won. Retail promotion is vital to maintaining a sustainable CBD, and through this campaign we aim to encourage locals and visitors to Shop in Taupo.
