Plastic Free July has turned into Plastic Free Taupō
During the month of July Towncentre Taupō and Taupō District Council challenged locals and business owners to get rid of single use plastic in their daily lives.
Assistance was provided by Council in the form of spin-the-wheel prize giveaways of reusable items and workshops on making beeswax wraps and reusable Boomerang Bags, and hundreds of locals participated in these events.
Towncentre Taupō helped do away with single use plastic bags in the commercial sector by giving businesses a start-up supply of paper bags and encouraging them to use reusable bags whenever possible.
Over 40 businesses made the change in July!
The end result is Plastic Free Taupō, an environmental initiative to keep the momentum going long after July and rid Taupō of single use plastic. We want businesses, schools and families to continue to reduce their use of single use plastic and help spread the message.
