Making a Difference

A cancer diagnosis can be frightening. It affects not only the person diagnosed, but also loved ones – sons and daughters, parents, siblings, partners, friends, husbands and wives. Thankfully the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society is here to ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
Most of us have heard of the Cancer Society, but do we know what they actually do to support the Taupō community?
The Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society is dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of cancer in our communities. They do this by providing personalised practical and emotional support to people with cancer, their carers and family/whānau, funding vital research, and helping Kiwis reduce their risk of cancer by encouraging and advocating for SunSmart, smokefree and healthy lifestyles.
Daffodil Day: 31 August 2018
Daffodil Day is the Cancer Society’s annual flagship event, raising awareness of cancer and generating funds for the Cancer Society’s wide range of patient and carer services.
The day symbolises hope for the one in three New Zealanders affected by cancer. Since 1990, this iconic event has inspired people to come together and support the Cancer Society’s work and provides an opportunity to raise awareness of cancer treatment and prevention in New Zealand.
Personalised support in Taupō
Taupō-based Cancer Society Community Liaison Nurse Caren Barnett is available to help you access the Cancer Society’s services, and often makes home visits to people who need support.
“We are part of many people’s lives. Cancer affects families, friends and colleagues – not just the person with the diagnosis.”
“I am glad to be here to support the people of Taupō and help make their experience a little bit easier. So please do give me a call or send me an email if I can help.”
