Greening Taupō

The objective of Greening Taupō is to improve the Taupō environment for people and native wildlife. This involves undertaking restoration planting and pest control to create ecological corridors to allow the number of native birds to flourish. Over the past five years, Greening Taupō in partnership with local agencies, business and the community have planted within the Taupō area over 80,000 trees in community planting days alone.

How to join:

Everyone is invited to come along and participate – it’s free!

Meeting details:

Community planting days are once or twice a month between March and September (planting season), advertised in the local paper, on our website and Facebook page.

Also, every Tuesday at 1pm for an hour or two we have a small team of volunteers called the Wicked Weeders. We return to all planting sites and ensure all the plants were planted correctly, spread the mulch, stake the plants and release them from weeds to ensure that they get a good start. Its great fun and there are always chocolate biscuits.

Taupō Mountain Bike Club

The Taupō Mountain Bike Club (TMTBC) actively promotes and encourages participation in the sport of mountain biking in the Taupō region through the provision of competitive and social events catering for all riding abilities.

The TMTBC has seen significant growth in families and kids riding the trails and participating in Club events so plans are afoot to foster this further in the coming years.

Our Junior Squad program for 12 to 15-year-old riders is in its fourth year and is going from strength to strength – the Squad’s primary focus is on skill development and an introduction to racing in a safe and supportive environment.

How to join:

Riders can join the TMTBC at no extra cost when they join to Bike Taupō to get a permit to ride in Craters MTB Park – just make sure you tick the box to join the TMTBC on the Bike Taupō form.
