Creating a Funky, Small-Town CBD
Continually striving to achieve a fun, unique town centre full of surprises, Towncentre Taupō (TCT) connects locals to the CBD with many innovative projects and events in the community.
Funky objects around town and lining the lakefront such as red bikes for sporting events, jumbo rugby balls for tournaments, guitars for summer concerts, photo boards, a play house and our clever plywood Christmas trees are just some of the examples visitors can experience. These projects are funded by TCT and include a local community element whenever possible. The plywood trees for example are cut by the men’s shed, the paint for these is donated by Bunnings and they are lovingly decorated by local primary school children.
Our newest and most prominent interactive piece is #LOVETAUPO, right on the lakefront. A collaborative effort with TCT and Destination Great Lake Taupō, it is clearly the new star of the town centre, where hundreds of visitors capture their visit in front of our beautiful lake and mountains, spreading their love for Taupō. Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the greatest mark!
Remember to also wander the back streets of the Taupō town centre, where you will see the largest collection of street art in the country!
