Speedy Signs & EmbroidMe come to Taupō!

The wait is over…

Sometimes in business, as in life, an opportunity will present itself just at the right moment. The turmoil of a pandemic might not seem like the time to begin a new business venture, but for local business owners Jo and Matt Lee, and Garry and Judy Lough, it made complete sense.

After two years of dealing with the impact from little to no tourism in the Taupō region and its hit to their publishing division at ninetyblack, it was time for fresh ideas. The decision was made when the lease for the space underneath their existing business came up at the same time as a new Taupō franchise opportunity for Speedy Signs and EmbroidMe.

Their current business, printed apparel company Twentee Supply Co, is the perfect platform for taking on EmbroidMe, says Jo. Ninetyblack started the venture from scratch during the pandemic and will be able to take their learnings and ideas forward into the new business, with the benefit of support from a nationwide network.

Who are Speedy Signs and EmbroidMe?

Speedy Signs is New Zealand’s largest network of signage shops, servicing the business community for more than 20 years. Meanwhile, its sister business, EmbroidMe, have been supplying uniforms, apparel, and promotional products to Kiwi businesses since 2006. The new Taupō franchise will be the 28th Speedy Signs and the 15th EmbroidMe shop in New Zealand when it opens in early June.

Speedy Signs is your one-stop-shop for all sign solutions, including interior signs, exterior signs, vehicle graphics and vehicle wraps, vinyl and PVC banners, window graphics, and health and safety signs. The new Taupō store will be fully kitted out with the latest sign technology, including a top-spec CNC router, on-site vehicle wrapping, and an experienced sign making team.

EmbroidMe is much more than just embroidery. It offers a full brand promotion service, from apparel to promotional products like bags, pens, and even plush toys. They can supply garments from top brands including Biz Collection, AS Colour, Gildan, Syzmik, and Stormtech. For branding or personalisation, EmbroidMe Taupō will be able to offer embroidery alongside digital printing, screen printing and dye sublimation to suit the needs of the garment. Whether it’s kits for a sports team or hundreds of branded uniforms or workwear, EmbroidMe can do it all.

Matt and Jo say they’re excited about the challenge. As Jo puts it, they “love creating and delivering quality for people, and our attention to detail and background give us a unique opportunity to help other businesses grow.” They think the new franchise slots in perfectly with what they already do at ninetyblack, in graphic design, digital marketing, and web development.

What does this mean for Taupō?

One of the key selling points for Matt and Jo was the power of the new on-site showroom. The new space, opening June 7, will deliver Taupō’s largest uniform showroom, enabling people to come in and view in person, try things on, and even walk out that day with off-the-rack clothing.

With a nationwide network of systems, suppliers, and buying power, local and national businesses with regional outposts alike will be able to benefit from choosing Speedy Signs and EmbroidMe. And with the ninetyblack graphic design and web development office conveniently located above, if you’re looking for brand management, workwear, and signage solutions, the three businesses will have you covered.
